Accessibility

Newsmaker has been designed with a number of features that can increase the level of accessibility for certain users.

Text and browser view resizing

On certain pages, the text size can be made larger. Three text sizes are available by clicking on the links in the top right of the webpages (NB this feature requires JavaScript to be enabled in your web browser). Text and view resizing tools are also available in popular web browsers.

Firefox 2 and Internet Explorer 6. Open the 'View' menu then select choose from the 'Text size' menu.

Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer 7 and upwards allow the whole browser window to zoom. To do this, press Ctrl and + to zoom in and Ctrl and - to zoom out. To increase text size only, in Internet Explorer 7 and above, open the 'Page' menu and then choose from the 'Text size' menu. To increase text size only in Firefox 3, open the 'Tools' menu, choose 'Options' then, within the 'Content' tab, you can set the default font size.

Safari also allows text resizing - choose 'View', then 'Zoom text only'. The page can be resized from the 'View' menu, choose 'Zoom in' / 'Zoom out'.

Tabbing using the keyboard

Where possible, keyboard controls have been implemented to allow navigation within Newsmaker. To move between links on the page, repeatedly click the 'Tab' key. When you reach the link you are interested in, click on the 'Enter' key. Tabbing also allows you to move between the fields in the forms on Newsmaker.

Navigation within pull down menus

Some of the forms on Newsmaker include pull down menus. These can also be accessed using the keyboard. Firstly navigate to the pull down menu using the tab key, then, click on the 'Alt' key and 'down' arrow at the same time. You can then navigate the list within the pull down using the 'up and 'down' arrows. Once you have chosen the correct item, click on 'Enter'
